Genting Highlands and Batu Caves

Genting Highlands

It's the third day of our trip and we are now heading for some adventure. After breakfast, we rode LRT from KLCC Station to Terminal Putra Gombak. The 30-minute ride from KLCC Station to Terminal Putra Gombak will cost not more than MYR4.00 per person. Just below Terminal Putra Gombak LRT Station is the Genting Ticket Booth. There, we purchased promo package tour which only costs MYR 26.00 per person. This already includes bus ride and cable car ride to and from Genting, and your choice of Outdoor Theme Park Ride Ticket OR lunch. Too bad, we didn't get to ride the cable car even if it is included in the package because it is under maintainance on the day we went to Genting Highlands.

From Terminal Putra Gombak, a bus will take you to Genting Highlands (about 3o minutes ride up). The weather is a sharp contrast from the normal temperature of Kuala Lumpur. In Genting, since it is high up in the mountain, temparature is around below 15 degrees Celcius so it is advisable to bring along a jacket with you.
The Genting bus took us back to Terminal Putra Gombak at around 2:30pm. From there, we rode a taxi to the nearby Batu Cave. It's only a 10-minute ride and cab fare only costs around MYR5.00.

Batu Caves

The best thing in travelling around Malaysia is that some of the major tourist attractions are open to public, that is, they do not have admission fees. Just like Petronas Twin Towers, Batu Cave does not have any admission fees. Batu Cave is located along a major highway and is accessible by cab.
The majestic statue of the Hindu God in Batu Caves is so huge that you can see it along the highway. Once we arrived, we were greeted by doves and monkeys. Just make sure not to leave your bags/luggages unattended as these will be feasted by the monkeys. The 272 steps to the cave is well worth it, inside you can see shrines and temple where the Hindu monks pray.

Batu Caves

After visiting Batu Caves, we flagged down a cab along the highway. Cab fare is around MYR20.00 to KL City Center.

Some Helpful Tips:

1. Do not leave anything unattended inside Batu Caves or the monkeys will feast it. It is also dangerous to shoo them because the monkeys fight back. When faced with a situtation like this, it is better to ask help from people who reside in the place. The monkeys are dangerous, do not pet them.

  3. Hi Joey!

Thanks for dropping by my blog.

It is possible but time may be too tight. I would suggest you do petronas in the morning, genting highlands and batu cave in the afternoon and spend sometime in Suria KLCC/Bukit Bintang area in the evening. You can catch 6am aeroline bus the next day from KL and arrive at noon time in SG. Better yet, go aeroline.com.sg and check their bus schedule. Be sure to book online in advance to ensure you have seats.

I hope this helps and have a nice trip ahead. =)

  9. Hi! Thank you for dropping by my blog. As soon as you arrive in KL, I would suggest you to try your luck in getting advance tickets for Petronas Twin Towers. By 10am, it is highly likely that the tickets for the twin towers are already sold out for the day. Do also note that the towers are closed on Mondays and they now charge 50 ringgit per ticket.

You can spend the afternoon in Genting and Batu Caves. Next day, you can check-out early from your Genting hotel and transfer immediately to Kuala Lumpur. Visit Petronas towers (if you are lucky to have advance tickets), Suria KLCC, Bukit Bintang Area for shopping and Merdaka square. If your hotel booking is not yet final, I would suggest that you book your hotel within Kuala Lumpur instead of Genting to allow more flexibility in your itinerary.

Good luck and I wish you a pleasant trip to Malaysia! I'm sure you will have fun!
