Singapore: Raffles Hotel, Esplanade, Merlion Park, CBD, China Town, China Town Heritage Center, Orchard Road

Today is the last day of our Singapore tour and we have to make most out of it. We woke up very early in the morning, and started our walkathon right after breakfast.
Raffles Hotel (approx. 15 minutes walk from Bayview Hotel)

From our hotel,
Bayview Hotel Singapore , we walked pass Raffles Hotel. Raffles Hotel is Singapore's oldest and grandest hotel. If you have money, you should try the famous Singapore Sling.

Esplanade and Merlion Park (approx. 15 minutes walk from Raffles Hotel / approx. 30 minutes walk from
Bayview Hotel)

After some picture taking outside
Raffles Hotel, we headed towards Esplanade and Merlion Park. We took pictures with the Mama Merlion and the Baby Merlion. Also, the backdrop of the Merlion Park facing CBD is fantastic. It's picture perfect!

Central Business District and China Town (approx 10-15 minutes walk from Merlion Park / approx. 40-45 minutes walk from
Bayview Hotel)

We were in CBD and Chinatown after 15 minutes walk from China Town. China Town is the place to buy the cheapest souvenirs. From Singapore shirts to keychains, they all have it here in China Town.

China Town Heritage Center

After 15 minutes walking around China Town, we finally found what we're looking for - the China Town Heritage Center. Actually, this museum is not included in our itinerary but because the ticket was given as a freebie when we purchased the Sentosa Package Tours in Harbour Front Center Tower 2, we gladly went there.
The China Town Heritage Center is a small museum yet it is jam packed with lots of information. We ended up 2 hours inside. The museum portrays the settlement and struggles of Chinese in Singapore in the early years, and how they transformed Singapore to a powerful rich country. This museum is a MUST VISIT especially for Chinese tourists.

Outside the China Town Heritage Center are sidestreet food shops. There, we ate our last lunch in Singapore.

Orchard Road

A visit to Singapore is not complete without visiting Orchard Road. Orchard Road is a shopping heaven especially if you are from the West.
From China Town, we took a cab to the West end of Orchard Road which dropped us off in Marriott Hotel. From there, we started our Orchard Road Walk. We walked pass Wisma Atria, Ngee Ann City and other malls, occassionally entering to cool down ourserlves from the heat outside.

Orchard Road is not as long as I previously thought it to be, we were able to reach the East end of Orchard Road in just 30 minutes.

Finding the right hotel just got a whole lot easier - HotelsCombined.com

After today's Singapore walkathon, we went back to Bayview Hotel to check out. We flagged down a cab outside the hotel to take us to the airport.

Singapore is truly a Class A Tourist Desitination. I will definitely go back there again!

If You Have More Time...
Here are some more places to visit/try:

Jurong Bird Park
Red Lantern Tour (a tour in Geylang, this is actually included in the Singapore Pass but we were not able to join due to time constraint)
Botanic Gardens
G-Max Reverse Bungee Jumping in Clark Quay
The Singapore Flyer

  3. Hi Pramod. Both Singapore and Kuala Lumpur are excellent cities to travel. They have good public transport system and almost everyone knows English so there is nothing much to worry about. The only tricky part in planning this two city trip is crossing SG-Malaysia border. However from experience, the process in passing customs is fast and smooth, though you need to bring down your bags from bus in each cross. I would strongly suggest you book your bus tickets well in advance (Aeroline, Transtar, etc) as most of the seats are already fully booked on same day of departure.

8 days is good enough to tour SG and KL. If you want to can follow my itinerary but given that SG is very dynamic tourist city, some of the tours mentioned like DHL balloon ride have ceased. However, I suggest you to go to ducktours to book for hop on hop off package depending on their current tours available. I highly recommend their packages as they are good value for money. There are also new tourist sites not mentioned in my blog like Singapore Eye, universal studios and singapore sands which are worth to see. I hope this helps, enjoy!

A Famosa fortress in Malacca State was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. This is the historical state in Malaysia.
